Curriculum Vitae
Vasileios Chatziioannou was born and raised in Thessaloniki (Greece), where he obtained his B.Sc. diploma at the Department of Mathematics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2004, he moved to Edinburgh, where he received an M.Sc. with distinction in Applied Mathematical Sciences from the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, which was concluded by a dissertation On axisymmetric flows with no swirl. He subsequently joined Queen’s University Belfast as a PhD student, working at the Sonic Arts Research Centre and at the school of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His thesis, entitled Forward and inverse modelling of single-reed woodwind instruments with application to digital sound synthesis, was published in 2010. Since then, he works at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he is teaching and conducting research in the acoustics of musical instruments and obtained his habilitation in Music Acoustics in 2023. He has led two projects on physical modelling of musical instruments, funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), as well as the ITN project VRACE – Virtual Reality Audio for Cyber Environments funded by the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme of the European Union.
In 2004, he obtained the UEFA B coaching diploma and subsequently coached at the Athletik Park academy, PAS Toxotis, and the AC Milan camp, which was held in Thessaloniki in 2006. He is also an associate editor of The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, and the chair of the EAA Technical Committee on Musical Acoustics.
